Dr. Jo Williams


Lecturer and consultant

  • Jo has been working in the field of sustainable development since 1995. She is currently a lecturer at The Bartlett School of Planning, University College London.
  • She also acts as an expert advisor to the UN, European Environment Agency, London Renewables and London Energy Partnership.
  • Her work has tended to concentrate on the creation of eco-citizens, eco-communities and eco-regions, with an emphasis on energy and carbon emissions.
  • Jo has investigated a number of emerging trends in society (including growth in one-person households) that impact on the environment.
  • Based on her findings she has suggested a range innovative solutions for tackling these problems.
  • Her seminal work (recently published) focused on the global environmental impact of the growth in one-person households.
  • It included suggested practices in innovative design, technological, fiscal, regulatory and educational solutions that might reduce this impact.
  • This work has had extensive media coverage and provoked a great deal of interest in international and national arenas (e.g. UN, EU, UK, US, and Japanese governments).
  • It has also had a significant effect on the general public.
